Many departments do not invest in training their IC’s with real fireground command practices

In person training opportunities are often limited or out of reach, and many IC's do not have the opportunity to get training or mentorship in real fireground command practices. Command training is commonly entirely absent, or consists of watered-down, generic, or antiquated information that leaves the ICs wondering what to do, or leaves every IC running their incidents based on personal preference and without consistency.

The online version could be utilized regularly as a refresher for seasoned ICs.”

Needed exactly this! Recently promoted to a Battalion Chief corps of 31+ year BC's. Old habits in this job die hard, as you know. So, being the 'new kid' coming in, obtaining information & mentorship has been difficult. This course help to fill that gap & was perfect for shoring me up in the areas that I know I am weak in. The same areas that many couldn't mentor me on simply because they just don't know. It was very reassuring to hear someone talk & think in the same way, with the same mindset, that I do about many things to include how Aggressive Command truly does support Aggressive Firefighting. Thank you for this! I need info on the full course.

Great presentation, learned a lot of ways to improve the way we perform incident command which will lead to a much more organized/less chaotic fireground.

FAQ

  • What is the class format?

The courses are conducted via high quality video and audio, and can be accessed from any internet capable phone, tablet, or computer. Each week, students will complete an online video-based training module, lasting 1-1.5 hours. They will also have a week to complete an assignment tin time for the following Live Session. Following the completion of each week's training module (every other Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.), students will participate in a live and interactive class discussion with the instructor and other students, based on material from that week's module. This will provide an opportunity to expand on the material, answer questions, and discuss applications to different departments or operational settings. Access to the modules and live trainings will be emailed to you.

  • Do I have to take the class for all 10 weeks?

Yes, each week builds on the material from the previous weeks. The courses have time-based assignments and discussions built into them as well.

  • Do I need to do anything outside of the class?

Throughout the class, there will be assignments that students will complete outside of class in preparation for the next bi-weekly discussion. These assignments provide enhanced learning by requiring students to engage with application of the class material, and also learn from each other through moderated peer discussions.

  • What is the class schedule?

Students will receive access to a new module weekly*, followed by a live session occurring every other Tuesday at 7:00 PM. (One week the live session occurs on a Thursday) The "live session" schedule is as follows:

    To Be Announced

*Students will receive each weeks module with enough time to complete it before the next live session. The first module will become available on TBD.
  • How much time do I need to dedicate to this class?

For maximum benefit, students can expect to dedicate around 2 hours per week to this program. This is an immersive training program that is intended for those who want to deep-dive into command practices and benefit from direct interaction with the instructors and their peers. We understand that not everyone will be able to dedicate this amount of time. For those who would still like to take the course modules on their own, there is an online Aggressive Command course available on demand for individuals or departments/groups. Or, if you need more time to schedule time for this training, we are planning to run another cohort in the Spring. Contact [email protected] to be added to the list to receive more information on those dates when it becomes available.

  • Will I have access to a recording?

Students will have access to all course modules for 2 weeks following the end of the cohort. Students will have ongoing access to the recordings of the live sessions. Due to the weekly structure of this training cohort, students should attend on the scheduled live dates, and are not guaranteed to be sent the recording before the next course starts the following week. The recordings will be sent out as quickly as possible, but it will not be immediate.
